EDiM #19 Draw Your Workspace

My perspective is a bit off I think but a close representation other than that.

Every Day in May

Just to change things up a little and to improve my quick sketching skills I decided to participate in the "Every Day in May" challenge. The idea is to draw a different predetermined subject each day in May and then post your work to the Facebook page and/or the Flickr page of the group. It is fun to see all of the different interpretations of the subject each day.

Unfortunately, life gets in the way and I have missed about half of the 15 days so far. I am not going to let that stop me though. I am going to keep on going, attempting to make up the days I have missed before the end of the month. One thing I found right away was that it was really hard to post the first couple of drawings because they were not "finished." I quickly determined that if I was to accomplish this goal, I had to let go of ego and just draw!

Anyway, here are my first five drawings for the month.

Image Transfer/Tip Jar Thursdays

I just came across this Facebook post from Arthouse Coop. It is an installment from their blog called "Tip Jar Thursday." This weeks feature is on image transfer; a technique which I will be including in my 2012 Sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project. Hope this information is useful to you. I know I needed a refresher on the finer points. After reading the post, it is all coming back to me. Needless to say, I had a flashback to Mrs. Yen's Intermediate Art class way back in 1975. Whooh.... You can check out a few pages from my 2011 Sketchbook and some random portfolio pieces here. I am just getting started on the 2012 Sketchbook but I will be uploading to this site as I get pages done. Maybe you should sign up for this project too, come on, whaddayasay???

The Sketchbook Project

On Monday I signed up to participate in The Sketchbook Project. I am super psyched to do this, mostly because over the last few years I have become fascinated with the whole Moleskine movement and have started trying to keep an ongoing sketch journal. I am excited to be challenging myself with a theme and a time frame. I am out of my comfort zone with this gang, but I am up for it. I am also looking forward to seeing as many of the other participants sketchbooks as I can. Check out the project at http://www.arthousecoop.com/projects/sketchbookproject and join in! You can view other peoples pages at http://www.arthousecoop.com/

I will (eventually) post all of my sketchbook entrys on my Sketchbook Project page in sequence so you can see them all together and follow the theme. My chosen theme is "Coffee and Cigarettes" I will also post my pages on my home page as I do them. I can't wait to get started, just waitin on my book to come...

EDM #16 Draw your Favorite Tool

It has been months since I've done any drawing so I thought I would warm up with an EDM (Every Day Matters) Challenge. So here is my rendition of "Draw your favorite tool." These are my flat-nosed pliers that I use for jewelry making along with a few strands of beads that eventually will be part of a multi-strand bracelet.

EDM Challenge #2 Draw a Lamp

This is the lamp on my nightstand. I was happy with this drawing, however, I would have done a few things differently. The shade has a beautiful sort of Paisley pattern on it that I neglected to render on the initial line drawing so I sort of improvised (read "creative license") on the pattern. I am not completely happy with the way the drawing scanned. I will have to keep experimenting with settings. On to the next challenge!

EDM Challenge #1 Draw a Shoe

I joined the Everyday Matters Group back in 2008 and am finally getting started with the Challenges. I decided it was appropriate to start at #1. This was done with Prismacolor Turquoise Graphite pencils on Strathmore Sketch paper.
